About Us

Who we are

The Prescott-Russell Coalition to Eliminate Violence Towards Women

The Prescott-Russell Coalition to Eliminate Violence Towards Women is a non-profit, unincorporated group of organizations, resource people and individuals in the Prescott-Russell area who share the same objectives: to eliminate violence against women (VAW) in our community. The Coalition has been financially supported by the Ministry of Community and Social Services (MCSS) since 2007 in order to raise awareness and educate the public about VAW and to foster collaboration and coordination among local organizations.

CORE BELIEFS

We believe that:
  1. All people have a right to a life without violence.
  2. Research shows that women are disproportionately affected by domestic and sexual violence. As such, we recognize that violence is gender-based and a violation of human rights. It reflects and reinforces inequalities between men and women and compromises the health, dignity, safety and autonomy of its victims/survivors.
  3. Sexual violence and domestic violence have long-term negative effects on individuals, families and society.
  4. Sexual violence and spousal abuse are crimes, and people who use violence against others must be held accountable.
  5. Sexual violence and family/spousal violence must be addressed collectively through health care, legal, social and political systems.
  6. Everyone has the right to services to help them recover.
  7. Services must be accessible and staff must be properly trained to provide services.
  8. Access to services can lessen the after-effects of abuse and facilitate recovery and post-traumatic growth.
  9. Improving the coordination of services for victims/survivors can maximize recovery.
  10. As a service provider in the area of violence against women, it is imperative to respond to victims in a timely, consistent and collaborative manner.
